Maya J'an brings the private aftermath of a relationship to the surface on "Put It In A Song," an acoustic-driven new single that turns heartbreak into a candid act of self-expression. Out now via Soulpower Records and Warner Records, the track finds the JUNO Award-winning songwriter confronting the words that can feel impossible to say directly.

"I don't always know how I feel until I sit down and put it in a song," J'an said in a statement. She describes the track as an unfiltered document of a relationship's collapse, built from feelings she initially did not want to share. That vulnerability is the song's strength: it does not tidy up the messiness of letting go.

Co-written with Danish artist, songwriter and producer Chris Burton, "Put It In A Song" begins with a startlingly practical breakup scenario: "I'm about to stick a breakup note over a mattress, go and have a couple beers till you're all moved out." From there, J'an's close-up writing frames the disconnect between two people trying to make something work. "You bend to sun, I twist to the moonlight / I keep trying you on hoping one day you'll fit right," she sings.

The restrained arrangement gives those lines room to land. Rather than presenting heartbreak as a grand dramatic event, J'an focuses on the uncomfortable clarity that arrives when a relationship no longer fits. It is a familiar feeling rendered with unusual specificity, and a reminder that writing can make difficult emotions easier to name.

The single follows J'an's six-song debut EP, blindfaith county, a project that established her knack for translating journal-like observations into emotionally direct, genre-blurring pop. Her earlier release "cul-de-sac," inspired by her Pasadena hometown and childhood memories affected by the 2025 fires, has surpassed 2 million streams, according to the release.

J'an has also made a mark behind the scenes as a songwriter. Her credits include work with Pharrell, SAINt JHN and Justine Skye, as well as Aqyila's JUNO Award-winning single "Bloom." Most recently, she co-wrote "Two Fools" from ENHYPEN's THE SIN : BLISS, an album that debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200.

With "Put It In A Song," J'an continues to make music for emotions that are often edited out of everyday conversation. The single is not simply a breakup song; it is an invitation to recognize that saying the difficult thing, whether in a conversation or a lyric, can be a first step toward feeling less alone.
